In our all-too-sterile modern office environments, sometimes the only other living things (besides your coworkers) are the often neglected houseplants that take up the odd corner or windowsill. And in many cubicles and office spaces, there isn’t even a tiny patch of green to help enliven the work environment. That’s too bad, because it’s been shown that having those potted plants around can have a restorative effect on our brains, which could also boost our productivity.
Taking that idea one step further, an all-in-one aquatic ecosystem compact enough to fit on a desk could be the answer that not only offers a “restorative distraction” during the day, but also lets us host a living ecosystem right in our own work space.
The EcoQube is an innovative and beautiful self-sustaining aquarium system that integrates an aquaponics filter that turns the waste from the fish into fertilizer for the plants, and includes a UV lamp for sterilizing the water and a full-spectrum LED light for boosting the growth of the plants, no matter what the light levels happen to be.

This aquarium kit is the brainchild of Eric and Kevin, of Aqua Design Innovations, and is the product of years of aquatic ecosystem experience.
